    The section about white / coloured flowers having different coloured stems and foliage made me smile - that's how I tell my cosmos seedlings apart! The pink and red ones have reddish stems whereas white are always pale.

    Speaking of runners... I have a Rosa Rugosa Question- Can ANYONE tell me, HOW DEEP will the Rosa Rugosa runners go to escape its walls? I'm getting ready to plant one in a very large, 1 meter (3 foot) wide circle, bottomless pot. So, inside the pot walls there will be lots of room. Yes, there will be an easy way out if the roots go deep enough. The walls of the pot are 2 feet high, but the majority will be buried under ground. Basically the roots will only have to go 20 inches (50 cm) deep to escape. I've never grown it before. But I've heard they like to send out runners. I just don't know if the runners basically stay horizontal? Or will they dig deep to escape? The soil in that whole area is quite rich. So the soil will be rich both inside and outside of the planter walls. I'm kinda hoping the Rugosa will be happy enough to stay within its bounds? It will be easy for me to dig deep. (And also for the roots too!) I'm planning on burying the walls of the planter pot almost 20 inches (50cm) deep, to hopefully keep the Rugosa from escaping. Can anyone tell me the truth?? DON'T SUGAR COAT IT!!! Am I just having wishful thinking? Am I being naive to believe it can be contained?! NOW is the time to tell me BEFORE I'm in over my head!! Any advice is much appreciated♥️ Thank You everyone!! ❤❤❤

    It is always a joy to listen to a plant lover who does the work, knows each plant and is fearless about trying new combinations and positions for these special plants. How is your garden watered, what is the soil type and the ph of the area? When you add new soil or amendments, what do you generally add? Do you make your own composite? Do you fertilize anything or let the nutrients in the soil be sufficient? My garden here in zone 5 b in New York is about 2 acres of 4 and all is in the middle of a hardwood forest. Unfortunately we are in the midst of the worst ever invasion of Spongy Moths (aka Gypsy Moths), and these voracious caterpillars have totally stripped most of our deciduous trees as well as all the Blue Spruce. Truly disastrous. I hope most will recover next Spring. Do you ever find any insect damage that is too devastating to even try to combat where you garden? Thank you for these enthusiastic videos.

      @johnlordssecretgarden 18 днів тому

      I never or rarely use fertiliser as our soil is a deep rich clay. Growth is naturally lush. I don’t water plants except during long dry spells which are rare and then only certain plants such as hydrangeas. We use bark mulch to keep down weeds and it also acts as a soil inprover on the heavy clay
